HISTORY

Stablished on October 13, 1970, the Graduate Program in Controllership and Accounting (PPGCC) of the Department of Accounting and Actuarial Studies (EAC) of the School of Economics, Business, and Accounting of the University of São Paulo (FEA-USP) is the oldest graduate program in Accounting Sciences in Brazil. The master’s degree program started in 1970 and the doctor’s degree program began in 1978, being the only Brazilian doctoral program in accounting until 2008.

In its more than 50 years of existence, the PPGCC/FEA/USP has contributed decisively to the development of Accounting Sciences in Brazil by graduating almost a thousand masters and doctors and by creating and disseminating accounting knowledge. Its pioneering spirit and excellence are marks that remain until today, being the only Postgraduate Program in Accounting with a 6 grade in Capes' four-year evaluation.

The faculty members, students, graduates and employees of the program have opened paths, fostered the development of research centers, disseminated fundamental and advanced knowledge, and influenced accounting practice throughout the country.

On the 50th anniversary of the PPGCC, in 2020, a commemorative website was created to detail the history of the program, which is intertwined with the history of postgraduate courses in Accounting in Brazil. The site also collects a series of testimonies, facts and photos of faculty members, graduates and students of the program and can be consulted at: ppgcc50anos.fipecafi.org
